2001 Grand Am

cardone1This project was a labour of love. It was for my son, Roman, to drive and wanted it to look like his car, not just his mom's old one! We looked for many months before we found some art that he really liked. This is the result of months of work, changed minds and a massive garage overhaul...

This car started out as a red car. Last summer I did all the body work, removed all the rust and painted back to the original color. Roman wanted a burnt orange color on the top, separating the red by a wild graphics. So we painted the top half Orange and left the bottom half red, cleared the car and parked it until we could come up with something great... After a few months, we came across a conceipt car Alfa Romeo Spider done by Roobi: http://roobi.deviantart.com/art/Alfa-Romeo-Spider-Airbrush-53294830. I contacted the artist and he gave me permission to copy his art for this car... Thank You!

WhiteSkullsSo I pulled the car back into the garage and sanded the entire car, masked it off and sprayed down sealer. Once the sealer was done, I based it in a dark silver paint. This was the base for the skulls and flames that were airbrushed next using auto air paint.

candyorangeskullsOnce the airbrushing was complete, I cleared the skulls and flames with candy tangerine. The next day I sanded the whole car -- again -- !

carmaskedoffAfter I sanded the car, I masked off the tribal that we wanted to keep. I started laying out the graphics by using fineline tape. Once happy with the tribal graphics, I covered them with transfer tape and masking tape.

paintedblackunmaskedNow I sprayed the black base over the entire car. Next I removed all of the tribal masking and clear coated the entire car. Waited until the next day and unmasked the rest of the car.
